Angels Soar Past Falcons, 3-0
RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College volleyball team took down the Pfeiffer Falcons, 3-0 (25-9, 25-22, 25-22) in the first match of their USA South Play Day at Weatherspoon Gymnasium.
Meredith controlled the first set, jumping out to a quick 5-1 advantage. A 12-2 run in the middle of the first frame gave the Avenging Angels (14-7, 8-2 USA South) a commanding 19-5 lead.
In the second set, Meredith would eventually build up to a 14-9, but the Falcons would storm back with a 5-0 run to tie the score at 14. The run included three kills Pfeiffer sophomore Alonna Clouse. But the Avenging Angels (14-7, 8-2 USA South) would not trail the rest of the set as they took the second set, 25-22.
The third set saw Meredith jump out to a fast 6-0 lead, but the Falcons (12-9, 3-6 USA South) rallied back with seven straight points to take the lead. Neither squad led by more the three points the rest of the way with the Avenging Angels taking the lead for good, 20-19, after sophomore Kenzie Moore hammered home an assist from senior Lauren Grodi.
Meredith is back in action later this afternoon as they take on Greensboro College at 4:00 pm.
