WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Meredith College Avenging Angels set two all-time program records in Sunday's Mondo College Invite at the JDL Fast Track in Winston. Julie Tonon moved atop the list in the 3,000 meter race, and Corrine Weaver's finish in the mile moved her to the top of the program-best.
Tonon started the record breaking in the 3000 meter run finishing eighth place in a time of 11:36.18. Fellow freshman Weaver claimed the Mile run finishing seventh in the event clocking a time of 5:41.57. Weaver also finished 11th (2:32.01) in the 800 meter run.
Michelle Gladdis continued to show improvement in the mile, finishing 13th (6:04.79) and leading a wave of personal records for several of her teammates, including 800 meter runners Francie Overman (2:44.22) and Banesa Arellano (3:07.91).
Essence Thomas led the Avenging Angels sprints team running the 60 meter dash and the 200 dash. Thomas finished the preliminary section of the 60 meter dash in 14th place in a time of 8.32 seconds. She continued her strong day with a 27.17 second performance in the 200 meter dash, which landed her ninth for the event. To top off the day, Thomas anchored the 4x400 meter relay with fellow teammates Erin Outlaw, Ansley Bucknam, and Weaver, finishing in fourth place with a time 4:29.41.
With a quick turnaround the Meredith College track & field squad will return to action on Friday and Saturday for the VMI Winter Relays in Lexington, Virginia.
