Soccer wins third straight, tops Mary Baldwin, 5-1

STAUNTON, VA -- Meredith College soccer won their third straight USA South contest, earning a 5-1 road win over Mary Baldwin. 

 

Freshman Kaelin Sanderford netted her first collegiate goal in the 7th minute to give the Avenging Angels and early 1-0 lead. Meredith (4-11, 3-3 USA South) would extend their lead in the 16th minute as sophomore Lillian Fox notched her third goal of the season off an assist by junior Katie Quinn. The Avenging Angels would make it 3-0 before halftime with freshman McKenzie Jackson scoring the first goal of her career.

 

Meredith would make it 4-0 early in the second half with Quinn finishing a feed from Mia Slaunwhite. Mary Baldwin (4-11, 0-6 USA South) would finally get on the board in the 66th minute when Georgia Sykes found Annie Ammons for the goal. The Avenging Angels would make it 5-1 in the 83rd minute as senior Hannah Elvington finished a through ball by freshman Morgan Tingen.

 

Freshman Emily Haynes made 8 saves in the win for Meredith.

 

The Avenging Angels are back in action Tuesday, October 22nd, at William Peace. That game will take place at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. at 7:00 pm.
