Meredith Golf Hosts Capital Crusaders

Allyson Nowell on the first tee

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College women's golf team hosted its first match Monday as the Capital University Crusaders traveled to Raleigh to enjoy better North Carolina weather. But under cold, rainy conditions, CU finished off the Angels 4-1 at Wildwood Green Golf Club, Meredith's home course and site of the Annual Golf Classic in April.

Junior captain Allyson Nowell teed off first for the Avenging Angels alongside Leah Campbell. Nowell lost to Sydney Kelly 6&5, and Molly Frey captured the second point for CU with a 5&4 victory.

Emma Brooks dropped her match to Megan Maschari with a 6&5 margin, and Reagan Johnson downed Jennifer Mackaman with an 8&6 margin.

Meredith's Victoria Bueti played as the lone fifth on the course for either team.

The Avenging Angels turn right around next weekend headed for Longleaf Golf Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina, for the two-day Sandhills Spring Invitational. Play begins Sunday at 11:30 a.m. and resumes Monday at 9:30.
