RALEIGH, N.C. -- With an 89-38 win over Methodist University, the Meredith College basketball squad secured a crushing victory for four-year Angel Madison Gladwell on Senior Day. And Kate Perko set a new college record with 449 points for a Meredith freshman in a single season, surpassing teammate Kimberly Schuh.
With Perko's game-high 28 points leading the pack, MCBB posted their best offensive performance this season, shooting 53.6 percent from the field. Perko shot a career-high 81.3 percent with help from her teammates who racked up a season-best 27 assists. Gladwell and Lindsay Bell led with six apiece with Zaina Hook dishing out five. Daia Dawkins and Perko recorded four apiece, and Schuh earned a pair.
The Avenging Angels outrebounded MU 56-to-23, including an impressive 22 on the offensive end. Schuh's career-high 10 offensive boards helped her set a new all-time program record with 23 rebounds in a single-game. Bell grabbed 10, Perko 8, and Gladwell 6. Bell also posted three steals and as many blocks on the day.
Today's win marked the Angels' fifth in league play, good for a sixth-seed in the USA South Conference Tournament. Tournament action kicks off Wednesday, Feb. 19, around the league, and Meredith will travel to third-seed Averett for round-one. The winner advances to next Saturday's cross-divisional contest at the West Division's second-seed Piedmont. MCBB lost both regular season contests to the Averett Cougars this season but within a five-point margin. Follow the live action from Danville, Virginia, HERE.
