FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Meredith College rookie Kate Perko topped last weekend's career-best rebounding performance by collecting 20 in Tuesday night's USA South victory over the host Methodist Monarchs. Four basketball Angels posted double-digit scoring totals, including a career-high for Lindsay Bell with 20.
Bell returned to the lineup last weekend after missing four games during the winter recess due to injury. With three steals, two assists, and five boards, she adds more than just points to MCBBs small lineup.
The team's 49 percent field goal shooting marks the second-best of the season, including three three-pointers from Bell. Perko and Kimberly Schuh shot a perfect four-of-four from the stripe, and Madison Gladwell missed just one in six attempts. Daia Dawkins spread her contribution over both ends of the court with two steals, three assists, two blocks, a pair of rebounds, and three points. Perko finished with a share of Bell's game-high points with 20 of her own, Schuh recorded 14, and Gladwell tallied 10 on the night.
While Meredith made their fair share of turnovers over 40 minutes of play, but the 20 points scored off of MU missteps made the difference in the game. After losing an early lead in the third minute of the game on a Monarch three-point basket, the Avenging Angels finally regained control for good at 2:26 on a putback from Perko.
The Angels return to their home hardwood Saturday with a conference pairing versus the Salem Spirits. Tip off is slated for 2 p.m. in Weatherspoon Gym.
