RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College basketball Angels would not keep pace with cross-town rival William Peace in 74-63 loss Sunday afternoon. Kate Perko posted 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds in the loss.
MCBB cut a 23-point deficit in half during the final 10 minutes of play but ran out of time in pursuit of the Pacers.
The Avenging Angels held their largest and only lead of the game through the first seven minutes of the game, but WPU slowly chipped away to gain control with 4:09 remaining in the first quarter. A four-minute scoring drought left Meredith trailing by 10 at the end of the stanza.
A second period finished with similar scoring struggles, and the Pacers held a 17-point advantage at the half.
Meredith scored just nine in the third but held Peace to 15, leaving a difficult task for the final 10 minutes of play. Led by Kimberly Schuh and MadisonGladwell, MCBB made good use of the time outscoring William Peace 26-14.
Schuh finished with a game-high 21 points, and Gladwell notched 10 with four rebounds, two assists. Mikayla Thompson finished with seven, and Daia Dawkins and Zaina Hook combined for nine points, six assists, and 10 rebounds.
Jaymesha Sanders finished with 14 points and five defensive rebounds for the Pacers.
The Avenging Angels finally return home for a midweek match-up with USA South rival Averett Unversity. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8 in Weatherspoon Gymnasium.
