FERRUM, Va. -- Kimberly Schuh scored 11 of her game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter to lead Meredith College in a 53-45 victory over the host Ferrum Panthers Monday evening. Kate Perko recorded her seventh career double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds.
In their first game in 12 days, the Avenging Angels opened with a slow start versus former USA South foe Ferrum. But 90 percent from the free throw line and a pair of strong 10-minute performances left MCBB with their first win in seven games heading into the New Year.
Trailing by two at the end of the first period, Meredith made a steady climb through the next 10 minutes to hold a five-point lead at the half. But Ferrum's leading scorer Kayla Cabiness led her team with eight points in the third to edge the Panthers back in front by three.
With Schuh's perfect offensive performance in the fourth, along with 10-of-11 from the stripe for the team, the Angels captured a much needed win to close out 2019.
Madison Gladwell recorded seven points on five-of-six from the free throw line, adding three steals and three assists, and Lindsay Bell dished out three assists with three boards and four points. Daia Dawkins and Zaina Hook notched a pair of steals apiece, and Mikayla Thompson finished with three assists and two rebounds.
Ferrum's Cabiness posted 12 points with five rebounds for the Panthers.
The Angels pick up their final non-conference game of the season Thursday afternoon at Montreat College in Western North Carolina. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
