Tatum Smith heads for third

EMORY, Va. -- The regionally ranked Emory & Henry Wasps required 10 innings to down Meredith College in Sunday's non-conference doubleheader (8-0, 9-1).

Myah Morse recorded the loss in game one, earning eight runs in four hits in 1.1 innings pitched. She walked four and struckout one before Emily Clemmons entered in the second stanza to close out the game. Clemmons allowed one hit and struck out two.

Cameron Derr earned the win for the Wasps pitching 3.0 innings, allowing no hits with five strikeouts. Tiffany Cole entered in relief and allowed the only hit in the game.

Avenging Angel rookie Tatum Smith recorded the lone hit for MCSB with a two-out single to first in the fourth.

In game two Alyssa Drake advanced on an infield single but was caught stealing second during the next at-bat. Bryce Smith led off the second inning with a walk, and Susanne Taylor scored Smith, Meredith's first run of the day, on a one-out double to left.

Sarah Gundlach took the loss for the Angels, earning five runs on five hits in 1.2 innings. Clemmons stepped in the circle in the second inning, earning two of the next four Wasp runs on five hits.

Meredith has a week to prepare for The Spring Games in Florida beginning with doubleheader Monday, March 9, in Clermont. Two of MCSB's games will offer live stats coverage, and fans may also watch live video offered by the tournament.
