Meredith Student-Athletes Give Back

Student-athletes trick-or-treat for canned food on Hallowwen

RALEIGH, N.C. -- As part of the USA South's Cans Across the Conference competition, the Meredith College Avenging Angels collected 1,150 non-perishable food items and donated to the Raleigh Rescue Mission. With 18 member institutions, the league presented 69,387 items to local organizations across the wide footprint of the conference.

Averett University was named the Cans Across the Conference Champion for the fifth consecutive year. Berea and Huntingdon Colleges rounded out the top-three.

Now in its 16th year, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) service initiative provides a competitive atmosphere for the conference to give back to local communities. Throughout the fall semester, SAACs across the USA South use creative ways to gather canned foods to be donated sometime before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Meredith Angels trick-or-treated for cans on Halloween, collected food at various home games, and received donations from student-athletes and the college's Office of Institutional Advancement.

SAAC's next service project begins in January when student-athletes will collect Pennies for a Purpose. Stay tuned for ways you may contribute.
