GEORGETOWN, Texas -- In Sunday's final regular season match Meredith College lacrosse shut out the Southwestern Pirates 24-0. Julie Capretti and Carlee Joseph scored a match-high six goals apiece to lead the Angels.
Joseph and Holly Hite opened the match with a pair of free position goals and went on to score the next two points with assists from Hanna Anderson and Olivia Higgs. After Southwestern collected the next draw, Hite forced a turnover and Capretti finished the play with an eight-meter score. Joseph and Capretti netted the next four goals, as Meredith pushed to a 9-0 advantage at 17:15.
Hite scored next with the Avenging Angels a man down, and Meredith lax continued to press to a 16-0 first half lead.
The Angels slowed the pace during the second period to finish off the win.
Hite led all with eight draw controls, adding four goals, two ground balls, and a pair of caused turnovers. Joseph dished out an assist and worked the midfield with a pair of draws and two ground balls. She was one of four Angels with two caused turnovers, including Natalie Purcell and Rachel Argabright. Cameron Ruffin led the defense forcing four turnovers with a pair of ground balls.
Joy Deitrich earned her fifth win starting in goal for the Avenging Angels with three saves, and Haley Whitfield entered at the break recording one save in the second period. Haley Hurt earned the loss for the Pirates playing the first 19:32 of the match, and Claire Harding closed out the game with two saves.
Meredith now awaits May 6th's announcement of the NCAA Division III tournament field with first round play slated to begin May 12.
