RALEIGH, N.C. -- Senior standout Carlee Joseph matched her career-best nine goals to lead Meredith College in a 27-5 victory over the USA South's Averett Cougars. Maria Codispoti posted her second seven-point, career-high match this season with five assists, two goals.
Codispoti partnered with Julie Capretti to score four of Meredith's first five goals, and Codispoti dished off to Holly Hite for the fifth. Lilia Cruz found the net on a free position attempt, and Cameron Ruffin found Hanna Anderson in the crease for the Angels' seventh goal just five minutes into the match.
Averett's Alixis Roccia scored the Cougars first goal on a free position shot in the 24th minute, and she controlled the resulting draw. Elizabeth Peasley drove down the middle for a second AU point, and Roccia collected the next draw control for a third consecutive Cougar goal.
Joseph led a 4-0 MC Lax run on the next play to interrupt Averett's rally before Peasley netted her second of the match in the 22nd minute.
But the remainder of the period was led by Joseph, who scored six-of-11 Meredith goals. With a 22-4 halftime advantage, Head Coach Lauren Scott moved into a rotating lineup to empty her bench.
Joseph opened the second period with her 49th and 50th season goals, and Anderson picked up her third of the match. Hite and Olivia Higgs netted two more as the Angels recorded their fifth consecutive victory and seventh in conference play.
Meredith enjoys a weekend off before hosting their final two regular season games before the USA South Tournament.
