ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Junior Meredith College standout Holly Hite set a new all-time record for the Avenging Angels lacrosse program with 193 career draw controls. Hite recorded five draws in Wednesday's 19-0 victory at the USA South's N.C. Wesleyan.
Meredith made quick work of the Bishops, who reinstated their women's lacrosse program last August after a three-year hiatus. Led by Carlee Joseph with four goals on the day, the Angels scored their 10th point in the sixth minute of the match to keep the clock running through the remainder of regulation.
The new 90-second shot clock regulation in Division III women's lacrosse kept the ball in motion, and Meredith netted five more before the intermission. The Angels closed out the win with four goals during the final 30 minutes of play.
Eleven Avenging Angels contributed to the final score, including three from Maria Codispoti, two from Julie Capretti, and two from Hite. Rookie Hanna Anderson notched two goals with a pair of assists, and Joseph spread the opportunity with three assists as well. Henley Peatross picked up four draw controls, along with Anderson and Sarah Arbes. Defensively, the Angels combined for eight caused turnovers and 23 ground balls and allowed the Bishops just two shots, both in the second stanza.
Meredith remains on the road with a trip to Misenheimer, North Carolina, Saturday afternoon to face off with USA South newcomer Pfeiffer before finally playing on their home turf Wednesday, March 1 versus Lynchburg. The Angels host nationally ranked Mary Washington on the 4th.
