RALEIGH, N.C. -- Athletic Director Jackie Myers recently announced the addition of Samantha Maziejka (ma JAKE uh) to the Meredith College athletics department as the assistant athletic director for advancement. The position was added to the staff last August as part of the NCAA Division III Strategic Alliance Matching Grant.
Longtime Meredith Head Volleyball Coach Fiona Barkley stepped into the role last fall but later returned to her passion of coaching volleyball.
"We appreciate Samantha's enthusiasm and energy," said Myers. "Fiona laid a solid foundation for the new position, and we expect Samantha to move the athletics program forward for our talented and dedicated student-athletes."
A native of upstate New York, Maziejka moved south to attend the College of Charleston. She earned an Artium Baccalaureatus Degree in Business Administration and Hospitality and Tourism, the first to do so in the School of Hospitality. While at Charleston, she managed on campus promotions with the sports marketing program and followed with a year as a development assistant with the Cougar Club.
Most recently, Maziejka worked with the Colonnade Group at Duke University. She assisted with event planning for Duke's Blue Devil Tower and Champions Club and worked closely with athletics staff for premium game day hospitality.
In her new role with the Avenging Angels, Maziejka will lead efforts to raise funds specifically for Meredith athletics. She will identify and cultivate new and existing alumnae relations, as well as parents, corporate sponsors, and other major gift donors with the expressed intention of enhancing the athletic experience for Meredith's diverse student-athletes. She will oversee multiple revenue sources, including the upcoming Annual Golf Classic, the Avenging Angels Club, the online athletics store, and athletic facility rentals.
